Despite less state aide than ever, MSAD27 approves 2018-19 budget at the budget meeting

On Monday, June 4, 2018, approximately 70 citizens were in attendance to vote on the 2018-19 school year.  After unanimously approving most of the budget articles, nearly all of the voters approved to oval budget of $11,766,575. 

Although this budget is down from the current school year's budget, the reduction of State aid, partly due to the withdrawal of Eagle Lake as a MSAD27 member community, and the shift from State to local responsibilities for adequately funding schools has caused many heartaches throughout the State.

The budget meeting is the first step in a two-step process needed to pass a school budget.  The final step will occur on Tuesday, June 12, when citizens will be asked to go to their local polls to approve the budget once and for all.  Those citizens who were not in attendance during Monday nigh's budget meeting, and who are uninformed about the budget totals and the impact to local property taxes are urged to view these slides and call the Superintendent's office with questions.  Questions can also be sent via email to benjaminsirois@sad27.org.

It is important that all who will be voting on June 12 understand the efforts that have gone into this budget and how funding schools is more difficult than ever due to State funding decreases.

Those citizens who are unable to vote on June 12 may obtain an absentee ballot at your town office until Thursday, June 7, 2018.  We thank you for your support as we continue to work with our communities on providing a great education to our students, while remaining fiscally responsible.

Driving Safety

Above: Aiden Sirois takes part in the "Seat Belt Convincer" designed to simulate and accident with a seat belt at 5 mph.  Students were convinced  how important wearing a seatbelt is in the event of an accident. 

Below:  Kailee Guimond responds to driving while texting on the "Distracted Driver Simulator".  Students saw firsthand the detriment of texting while driving.  This presentation was provided by Atlantic Partners EMS by a grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.

Thanks for every group that participated, you are all winners in our book!  All VRMS learners worked hard for the last two months developing, carrying out and presenting their science based educational fair projects. 

CHS/Cholet France Exchange A Huge Success!

Mr. Robert Daigle's French Exchange students recently returned from their trip to France during April Break. Cholet students spent 10 days in Fort Kent during the fall. Thank you Mr. Daigle for offering this opportunity to our learners on both sides of the Atlantic! CHS Natural Helpers take on Washington

Members of CHS Natural Helpers traveled to Washington D.C. recently to attend multiple seminars about leadership and drug/alcohol prevention. They visited the Capitol, listened to numerous speakers and had the privilege of meeting house members and senators, such as Susan Collins. They talked with her about what they do in our community, and how government funding impacts their small group. They were also able to meet other youth groups who have similar goals and plan to bring some ideas back to Fort Kent to continue to build a healthier community. Freshman Aspirations Day at UMFK

The freshman class of 2021 attended an Aspirations Day at UMFK earlier this month! The all morning activity built on our district's CORE Values by attending panel discussions from former students, local employers and fellow learners who have faced diversity. Senior Michele Toussaint gave a powerful keynote address on getting the most out of their high school years!
